Iranian state media reported on Tuesday that the country experienced nationwide attacks targeting its transportation infrastructure. Among the reported incidents, an railway bridge in Kaschan, a major central city, was hit by an Israeli airstrike, resulting in at least two fatalities. Additional attacks were also reported on an highway bridge near the Tabriz-Zanjan highway in the northwest, a railway bridge in Karadaj to the north, and a station in Mashhad.
These assaults occurred after the Israeli military had issued a warning, advising Iranians not to use trains temporarily for security reasons. The Israeli military stated that it had concluded a “large-scale wave of attacks” over the past hour, which targeted “dozens of infrastructure sites across numerous regions in Iran”.
Meanwhile, according to media reports, the US was also reportedly targeting military objectives on Kharg Island, an island crucial to Iran’s oil trade. These attacks took place just hours before the expiration of a deadline set by then-US President Donald Trump, who had threatened the destruction of bridges and power plants if Iran did not open the Strait of Hormuz to shipping traffic.
Trump reiterated this ultimatum via his platform, Truth Social. He posted, “An entire civilization will perish tonight that will never return. I don’t want that to happen, but it will probably happen”. However, he also suggested that a miracle could still occur, stating, “47 years of blackmail, corruption, and death will finally end”.
