A leading figure is expected to be named to head the newly forming youth organization of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. Sources within the party leadership have confirmed to Bild newspaper that Jean-Pascal Hohm, a member of the Brandenburg state parliament, is the anticipated candidate.
The new youth organization is slated for official establishment in November, with Hohm expected to stand for election as its head. Hohm himself confirmed to Bild his interest in a leadership role, stating he would “certainly consider taking responsibility” within the new organization, should the conditions be suitable.
The founding meeting is scheduled to take place November 29th and 30th in Gießen. It remains unclear whether any competing candidates will emerge to challenge Hohm. The move comes after a party congress decision to dissolve the previous youth wing, “Junge Alternative” (JA). The JA had previously been classified as right-wing extremist by Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution in 2023.
