Amid the controversy surrounding the arson attack on the property of Andreas Büttner, the Anti-Semitism Commissioner for Brandenburg, Büttner has received overwhelming support from the Jewish communities. The Brandenburg Association of Jewish Communities issued a statement declaring their “unrestricted” backing for Büttner, demanding that he continue carrying out his official duties.
The association stated that they stand “fully and completely” behind him, describing him as a reliable, brave, and highly committed partner in the fight against anti-Semitism. According to their statement, the arson attack constituted a direct assault on Büttner and his work, confirming that he enjoys undivided trust and full support. In conjunction with this support, the communities appealed to politicians and the public to stand with him during this difficult period.
The incident involved an early January arson at a side building located on Büttner’s property in Templin. Furthermore, a symbol resembling that of Hamas was sprayed onto his front door. Shortly after these events, Büttner received a harassing and threatening letter. The matter was subsequently taken over by the public prosecutor’s office, which launched a full investigation.
The investigation has centered on two men, both aged 25, who are known to Büttner’s circle. These individuals are currently suspects, facing investigation charges that include arson, property damage, and making threats. Reports suggest that there are existing personal and professional connections between Büttner and the accused. Furthermore, investigators have indicated that Büttner himself is slated to act as a witness.
