Jobcenter Reform: Focus Shifts to Job Placement

A leading figure within the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) is calling for an expedited reform of the citizen’s allowance (Bürgergeld) system, emphasizing a renewed focus on job placement by employment agencies.

Speaking to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann highlighted a recent government response to an inquiry by the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. The response indicated a decline in successful job placements and a reduction in the number of placement staff.

Linnemann stated that the current situation clearly necessitates a swift reform of the Bürgergeld system. He underscored the need for Job Centers to prioritize job placement rather than focusing on the management of unemployment.

The politician noted that the current coalition government had previously agreed to a significant systemic shift through the introduction of a new basic security system and he expects these necessary reforms to be implemented during the autumn months.
