JUSOs Demand Fuel‑Price Cap and Affordable DeutschlandTicket as Commuters Bear Rising Travel Costs

Juso chairman Philipp Türmer is calling for a price cut on the Deutschlandticket in response to the sharp rise in fuel costs. He told the newspapers of the Funke Media Group that commuters are feeling the strain from two sides-the steep petrol prices and a Deutschlandticket that is now considerably pricier than it used to be.

Türmer highlighted that oil companies are profiting from the current situation at the pump, while those who turn to public transport face a pass that no longer offers the same value it had a few years ago. “People who are just starting out in their careers-especially apprentices-are hit hardest” he said. “They earn entry‑level wages or training stipends but still have to get to work every day. We need both a petrol price ceiling to ease the burden at the station and a substantially cheaper Deutschlandticket. This isn’t a nicety; it’s a matter of economic and social participation”.

He referenced the success of the 9‑Euro ticket a few years ago, noting that millions who had previously avoided public transport began using it when it was affordable. “That wasn’t a coincidence but the result of a price that made genuine mobility possible for everyone” Türmer added. He stressed that policymakers already know what works and has previously advocated for a fuel‑price cap.
