Kaja Kallas Urges EU Leaders to Unlock 90‑Billion‑Euro Ukraine Loan, Blasting Orban’s Unreliability Ahead of Hungarian Election

EU foreign‑affairs chief Kaja Kallas urged the leaders of state and government to demonstrate “political courage” at the European Council summit in Brussels, insisting that the €90 billion loan for Ukraine be released.

Upon arriving, she said the main issue on the agenda was the aid‑credit package: “It is really time to show our support for Ukraine because the conflict in the Middle East is linked to the war in Ukraine, and sadly Russia benefits from the Middle‑East war”. She stressed the summit’s importance for reaching a solution.

Kallas singled out Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who had agreed to the loan in December but later withdrew his commitment. She called this untrustworthy and warned that “people in election times are not particularly rational” referring to Hungary’s parliamentary elections scheduled for April 12.
