Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has proposed a closer collaboration with Germany in the fields of raw materials and industry. In a guest article for the “Handelsblatt”, Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan currently supplies Europe with 21 out of 34 strategically vital raw materials, including lithium, silicon, cobalt, niobium, tungsten, and copper. He emphasized that these resources are crucial for the energy transition, advanced industry, microelectronics, and digital technologies.
The Kazakh President offered dependable supplies to Germany and suggested establishing joint value creation and production chains. This cooperation would cover the entire process, from geological exploration and extraction, through processing and component manufacturing, right up to recycling. Token’s proposal comes as he attends the German-Kazakh Economic Forum in Berlin starting Wednesday.
Tokayev specifically identified significant opportunities for partnership in areas such as critical minerals, metallurgy, petrochemicals, food production, and railway vehicle manufacturing.
