Bundestag President Julia Klöckner (CDU) has opposed a ban on mobile phones during parliamentary sessions. “A phone ban would not be appropriate because the phone is a work tool in the Bundestag” she told “Bild am Sonntag”. “Nevertheless, I also want to make sure that the front row isn’t completely filled with people because laptops are open”.
When asked about critics who point to the sometimes informal dress of MPs, Klöckner referred to existing regulations that, for example, forbid head coverings. On the question of whether it’s acceptable for a representative to appear in a tracksuit, she replied, “I don’t hand out grades on appearance. I myself would not come in a tracksuit”.
