Karlsruher SC finished the 25th matchday of the 2. Bundesliga with a 3-3 draw against Dynamo Dresden, despite falling behind multiple times.
The game began with a rapid burst from Dresden, who went ahead in the third minute when Niklas Hauptmann struck. KSC’s goalkeeper, Robin Himmelmann – standing in for the suspended Hans Christian Bernat – was not at his best. Although Dresden subsequently dominated possession and had a better passing accuracy, the Karlsruhe side equalised in the 23rd minute through a penalty converted by Marvin Wanitzek. Two minutes later Ben Bobzien restored Dresden’s advantage. Just before halftime, Hauptmann scored again off a counter‑attack, giving the Saxons a clear half‑time lead.
After the break the hosts gradually tightened their control. In the 68th minute Ben Farhat extended the scoreline for KSC. The Karlsruher kept up the pressure for a replay. They defended the slim edge until stoppage time, when yet another penalty was awarded; Wanitzek again calmly finished, levelising the match for good.
Dresden, having accumulated the same number of points in the second half of the season as in the first, remain in 14th place, while KSC stays in 8th. The next week, the Karlsruhe side will travel to play Kaiserslautern, while Dresden face Preußen Münster at the same time. In the parallel fixtures of that Sunday afternoon, Hertha BSC defeated Preußen Münster 2-1, and SpVgg Greuther Fürth beat Hannover 96 2-1.
