Armin Laschet, the former CDU chair and former chancellor candidate, says he harbors no bitterness over CSU leader Markus Söder’s Ash‑Wednesday joke about his resemblance to Defence Minister Boris Pistorius. In a conversation with the “Rheinische Post” (Saturday edition), Laschet noted that they have always bantered together, and that after a recent meeting at the Bavarian State Chancellery they even took a selfie and posted a tweet about the mix‑up. He finds it refreshing that people can laugh at themselves. Söder had joked in his speech in Passau, “I had a long chat with Armin Laschet. He was at the State Chancellery. We laughed and talked, and only at the end did I realize that it was Boris Pistorius”.
