The Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) has affirmed its continued rejection of a partnership with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party. In an interview with the “Rhinische Post” BSW co-leader Amira Mohamed Ali stated that the alliance’s position on the AfD remains unchanged, citing fundamental disagreements in policy and ideology that preclude any collaboration.
Mohamed Ali emphasized there are “no talks” taking place between the BSW and the AfD at the federal level, dismissing any potential for discussion. She clarified that the alliance is not seeking to erect barriers alongside established parties that would inadvertently benefit the AfD, prioritizing instead a focus on substantive issues.
While rejecting broader cooperation, Mohamed Ali acknowledged recent discussions with the AfD in the state of Thuringia. She explained this engagement was necessitated by the urgent need to fill judicial positions and ensure the functioning of the legal system within the state, framing it as a pragmatic step rather than an endorsement of the AfD’s broader political agenda.
