Sebastian Lechner, the state chairman of the CDU in Lower Saxony, believes that a new center of power has emerged within the Union thanks to Chancellor’s Chief of Staff Nina Warken and Union parliamentary group chairman Thorsten Frei. Speaking to the “Rheinische Post”, Lechner stated, “I am convinced: The two will ensure good coordination. This is a new strength center in the Union.” However, the top candidate for next year’s state election, Friedrich Merz, is also aware of what needs to change. Lechner stressed that the coalition must communicate cohesively, including the SPD. He argued that agreed-upon projects should not be constantly called into question, and the coalition must finally implement urgently needed structural reforms, which is what the public expects. If these changes succeed, the reputation of the federal government will also recover. According to Lechner, the Chancellor holds the “special responsibility to coordinate the coalition, keep it together, and push the reforms forward.”
