Left Icon Blasts Alliance Threat

A leading figure within the German Left Party (Die Linke) has voiced strong opposition to potential alliances between the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the recently formed Basis Social Movement (BSW).

Speaking to broadcaster “Welt” on Friday, Heidi Reichinnek, parliamentary group leader for Die Linke, characterized the AfD as a “securely right-wing extremist party” with whom dialogue or collaboration is unacceptable.

Reichinnek also addressed the departure of Sahra Wagenknecht, former parliamentary group leader and founder of BSW, noting, “There’s a reason she is no longer with Die Linke and has formed her own party.

Responding to speculation that a potential alliance between AfD and BSW might draw former Die Linke voters back to the party, Reichinnek dismissed the idea as unrealistic. She emphasized the party’s commitment to focusing on issues directly impacting citizens, listing concerns over rent, food prices, healthcare and public transportation as key priorities. “We are the only ones offering solutions to these problems and that’s why people will choose us” she stated, rejecting any hope of a shift toward the right and reaffirming Die Linke’s focus on tangible solutions for everyday citizens.
