Left Party Blames Special Fund Misuse for Germany’s Stagnating Growth, Calls for Structural Reforms

Faced with a grim growth forecast for the German economy, the Left has sharply criticized the black‑and‑red economic policy and the way the special reserve for infrastructure and climate protection is being used.

“That the growth forecast had to be revised downward again is not a coincidence, but the result of political miscalculations by the federal government” said Left leader Ines Schwerdtner in an interview with the “Tagesspiegel”. She argues that the reserve’s potential is far exceeded; instead of sparking genuine new investments, the money is frequently used to plug budget holes.

“While our export‑oriented model crumbles under collapsing markets and global crises, the government distributes a few tax giveaways and hopes for a miracle” Schwerdtner said. “This is not a strategy – it is stagnation”. The Left politician calls for a complete economic realignment.

She suggests that wages should rise sharply and that decisive action is needed to curb soaring rents and food prices. Additionally, an active industrial policy and a reform of the debt‑brake are required. Schwerdtner demanded the abolition of the Reich. “Katherina Reiche is not the right person for this mammoth task because she lacks the will to make a difference for hard‑working people” she said.
