A leading figure in the Left party (Die Linke), Heidi Reichinnek, has confirmed she is consistently filing reports of abusive language and threats.
Speaking to the news portal T-Online, Reichinnek stated that while she cannot report every instance due to anonymity, she considers it a vital task, supported by a dedicated team. She disclosed receiving a death threat via mail just this past week. Reichinnek added that the majority of the abuse takes place online, detailing a significant volume of sexist insults, death threats and threats of sexual violence.
While acknowledging that she is not personally affected by every incident, Reichinnek emphasized that online abuse is not a trivial matter. “The internet is not a lawless space. These are not minor offenses, but breeding ground for something truly happening” she stated. She expressed concern about the individuals perpetrating such actions, questioning whether they would dare to express their views directly.
