The state association of The Left in Berlin is taking legal action against the state of Schleswig-Holstein. The case stems from an Instagram post published by the state’s Interior Minister, Magdalena Finke (CDU), on September 23rd, which she shared with the official ministry account.
According to reports, The Left accuses the minister of violating the principle of state neutrality. A formal warning regarding the matter was delivered to the editorial office on September 28th.
The controversy began after Minister Finke sharply criticized the Berlin branch of The Left following its electoral success. In the Instagram post, she stated that any individual who tolerates antisemitism within their ranks or has connections to clan structures should never assume responsibility for security duties.
The Berlin Left has issued Schleswig-Holstein a deadline. They demand that the state provide a legally binding declaration to cease the actions by October 1st. The Interior Ministry in Kiel acknowledged the warning and stated that it is currently reviewing it from a legal perspective. Furthermore, The Left has also pursued legal charges against the Federal Minister of Economic Affairs, Katherina Reiche (CDU), on similar grounds.
