The Left Party continued its federal party congress in Potsdam on Sunday morning. The key focus of the third and final day of the party meeting is the discussion of the party’s guiding resolution and other motions. Among the items on the agenda is the controversial issue of a salary cap, as the party management calls for limiting the stipends of members of the Bundestag and the European Parliament. This demand previously met significant resistance, particularly within the Bundestag faction.
The party had already held its leadership election the previous day. Ines Schwerdtner was re-elected to her position with a solid result. However, her new co-chairman, Luigi Pantisano, began his mandate with a notably low level of support, securing only around 53 percent, despite having no opposing candidates. On Sunday, the congress is scheduled to feature a speech from the new leadership duo.
