Linken Criticizes Government Over Careless Heating Law After Constitutional Court Decision

Violetta Bock, a Member of the Bundestag representing The Left party, has accused the federal government of acting irresponsibly following the Federal Constitutional Court’s rejection of an urgent application against the so-called heating law.

Bock, who originally filed the application in Karlsruhe, told the “Rheinische Post” that even with the court’s decision, the federal government still faces a significant political setback. She argued that the law’s rapid passage through parliament, without addressing key questions regarding climate consequences and the promised alternatives to natural gas, demonstrated a lack of political responsibility. For her, the rejection of the procedural complaint meant the law was neither a good nor a socially just measure.

According to Bock, both the legal and political debates are far from over. She affirmed that her party will continue to fight for a transition to sustainable heating (Wärmewende) that is both affordably priced and protective of the climate.
