Luigi Pantisano, the chairman of Die Linke, stated that he does not rule out having a CDU politician become the Minister-President following the upcoming state elections. During a ZDF summer interview on Sunday, he commented that Die Linke has demonstrated in recent years that it is willing to take responsibility for the country. He emphasized that this is especially true when the goal is “to prevent the AfD,” a strategy that is already being implemented in Thuringia and Saxony, and which they have also carried out in Saxony-Anhalt. The current question, however, is whether someone like Sven Schulze in Saxony-Anhalt is willing to take on this level of responsibility.
Pantisano had previously accused the CDU of adopting “fascist policies” in July, shortly before his own election as party chair. He later issued an apology for this comment, and he has now stated again that his previous remarks were “false.”
Currently, there is a standing agreement between the CDU, Die Linke, and the AfD that explicitly precludes any form of cooperation. Nevertheless, recently, there have been indications emerging from within the ranks of the Christian Democrats suggesting that this exclusion agreement regarding Die Linke in Saxony-Anhalt might be weakening.
