In July 2026, the mileage covered by commercial trucks with at least four axles on federal autobahns rose by 0.8 percent when adjusted for calendar and seasonal variations, compared to June 2026.
The Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) and the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reported on Friday that the adjusted truck toll mileage index stood 0.5 percent below the level recorded in July 2025.
Economic activity drives and requires transportation services. Consequently, there is a clear correlation between the truck toll mileage index and various economic activity indicators, particularly industrial production. Since the truck toll mileage index becomes available about a month earlier than the production index, it serves as a leading indicator for economic developments. However, the authorities noted that a breakdown of the data by economic sector is not possible.
