The Women’s Union in Lower Germany has expressed alarm over a suspected deep‑fake incident involving a member of the CDU caucus in the state parliament, and is calling for stronger protection for victims.
“Clear and zero tolerance is essential, and the case must be fully investigated. The affected woman deserves support” said Landesvorsitzende Mareike Wulf when speaking to the news magazine Focus.
Wulf added that the Women’s Union will engage in dialogue with the CDU in Lower Germany to examine how its protection concepts can be adjusted and significantly improved. She highlighted the need for explicit reporting channels, consistent procedures, and genuine safeguards for those impacted.
She also described the allegations as a wake‑up call: “Deep‑fakes intensify violence against women and frequently constitute an assault on women’s dignity. We must name and confront this decisively”. Wulf urged that deep‑fakes be incorporated into the criminal code.
