The Independent Flight Attendants Organization (UFO) has called for a strike involving the cabin crew of Lufthansa and Lufthansa Cityline this Friday. According to the union, the strike is scheduled to take place from 12:01 AM until 10:00 PM. Consequently, all Lufthansa departures from Frankfurt and Munich airports are affected. The Cityline strike will impact flights departing from Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg, Bremen, Stuttgart, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Berlin, and Hanover. Joachim Vazquez Bürger, UFO chairperson, stated that the situation could have been avoided, placing responsibility on Lufthansa for allegedly failing to present any negotiable offer to date. He added that the union deliberately excluded the Easter holidays from industrial action to minimize travel disruptions. However, he acknowledged the potential impact on return travel after the holidays, expressing regret over any inconvenience caused. Harry Jaeger, Director of Wage Policy and negotiator for the UFO, criticized the employer side for showing no movement over several months regarding issues such as protection against overwork, improved planning, or extended notice periods. He argued that the employer is now using the concept of “productivity” to suggest deep structural cuts to crucial and hard-won protective safeguards. Jaeger concluded by stating that reaching an agreement is simply unthinkable given these circumstances.
