Magyar’s Party Poised for Historic Parliamentary Shift

Péter Magyar gave his victory speech Sunday evening after winning the parliamentary elections in Hungary. Speaking to his supporters at a campaign event along the Danube, he stated, “Hungary, we have done it. The Tisza Party and Hungary have won this election-not by a small margin, but substantially”. He added that they had “together ousted the Orbán regime, liberated Hungary, and reclaimed our homeland”.

According to estimates from the national election office, Magyar’s Tisza Party is projected to achieve a two-thirds majority in parliament, which would enable them to amend the constitution. Concurrently, Viktor Orbán would lose his position after 16 years in government. Magyar remarked, “This is the legitimacy we owe to 3.3 million people. Hungary has written its own history”.

With the vote count currently standing at 91.90 percent, Tisza is expected to secure 138 out of 199 seats. Orbán’s Fidesz party, which won 135 seats last election alongside the government partner KDNP, is forecast to suffer a significant loss, dropping to 54 deputies. The Mi Hazánk Mozgalom party is estimated to receive 7 seats.
