A 27-year-old man of Bosnian- Herzegovinian nationality was temporarily detained in Essen early Wednesday morning during a large-scale raid conducted by special operations forces. The Düsseldorf General Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Essen Police Department jointly announced the action.
The operation involved simultaneous raids at six locations in Essen, Dortmund, Düsseldorf and Soest. In addition to the detained man’s residence, authorities searched properties belonging to witnesses as part of the effort to secure evidence. These measures are connected to an ongoing investigation.
Investigators suspect that funds obtained through fraudulent activities were intended to finance a terror attack with an Islamist motivation. Due to the sensitivity and ongoing nature of the investigation, authorities have refrained from disclosing further details. Police operations remain in progress.
