A man sustained serious injuries after jumping from the roof of a high-rise building in Oldenburg’s city center following a protracted rescue operation. Police and emergency services were engaged in the situation since the previous evening, responding to reports of a man on the roof of a building on 91er-Straße who had expressed suicidal intentions, according to a Saturday evening statement from the Oldenburg-Stadt/Ammerland Police Department.
Specialized police officers spent several hours attempting to de-escalate the situation and prevent the man from jumping. He reportedly threatened immediate self-harm should authorities approach. The man ultimately jumped from the roof at approximately 2:45 PM local time, where he was immediately attended to by awaiting emergency personnel. The injured man was transported to a hospital and no further details regarding his condition were released.
Sections of 91er-Straße were closed to traffic during the operation and these road closures were lifted in the afternoon following the completion of the rescue efforts.
