Lufthansa is expected to suffer massive flight cancellations this Thursday. On Tuesday, the pilots’ union Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) announced a full‑day strike. The pilots of both the mainline brand Lufthansa and its cargo arm, Lufthansa Cargo, will refuse to fly from 12:01 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. The dispute centers on improvements to retirement benefits; the union seeks higher employer contributions to pilots’ company pensions. Lufthansa rejects the demands, citing high costs.
In addition, the cabin crew will also strike on Thursday. According to the flight attendants’ union Ufo, all departures from Frankfurt and Munich airports will be halted from 12:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. The union’s complaint highlights the employer’s refusal to address any requests for bettering cabin crew working conditions, preferring instead to cut existing protective measures.
