Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern’s Economy Minister Wolfgang Blank, who is an independent politician, was seriously injured in a road traffic accident on the A20 motorway. His ministry released the news on Thursday. The Minister’s driver also suffered serious injuries.
According to the police, the collision occurred around 09:30 a.m. on the section of the A20 heading toward Lübeck, between the exits at Bad Sülze and Tessin. A BMW-apparently Blank’s official vehicle-was travelling on the left lane when a highway maintenance vehicle that had been on the shoulder attempted to move onto the left lane. The two vehicles collided, causing the BMW to hit the median guardrail and overturn.
Both injured parties were taken to hospitals in the vicinity. The driver of the maintenance vehicle, who was initially positioned on the left lane to secure a construction site, sustained only minor injuries. Investigations into the cause of the accident are still pending.
