The SPD has intensified its criticism of a series of proposals by the CDU that would cut the social state.
Manuela Schwesig, the Minister-President of Mecklenburg‑Vorpommern and a member of the SPD, told the “Tagesspiegel” (Tuesday issue) that she is shocked by the Union’s continual attacks on the country’s social fabric and cohesion.
“We see workers putting in full effort every day” she said. “They only visit a doctor when they are truly ill. It appears that some in the Union have lost touch with the reality of the working world”.
Schwesig found the CDU Economic Council’s plan to privatise dental care completely unacceptable. “It cannot be acceptable that people are discouraged from seeing a dentist because they fear the bill” she warned. “Good oral health should not become a matter of money”.
