George Russell of Mercedes secured victory at the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday, marking his second win of the season and his fifth career Formula 1 triumph. The British driver expertly navigated the demanding circuit, finishing ahead of Max Verstappen of Red Bull in second place and Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, both driving for McLaren, who secured third and fourth respectively. McLaren’s strong performance significantly contributes to their pursuit of the Constructors’ World Championship title.
The race began with a dramatic start as Russell, starting from pole position, demonstrated immediate control, fending off pressure from Verstappen. An incident occurred at Turn 3 when Norris and Piastri made contact, with Norris managing to maintain his position despite sustaining minor front wing damage that did not significantly affect his race.
Russell quickly established a lead exceeding four seconds, while Verstappen experienced escalating gearbox issues from as early as lap 12. Although Norris closed the gap somewhat, he was unable to challenge for the lead. Further back, Piastri maintained a consistent pace, while Hamilton and Leclerc engaged in a competitive duel for fifth and sixth positions. The remainder of the top ten consisted of Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes-AMG), Charles Leclerc (Ferrari), Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), Oliver Bearman (Haas) and Carlos Sainz Jr. (Williams). Nico Hülkenberg finished in 20th place.
