During its federal party day in Stuttgart next weekend, the CDU has decided to limit the availability of alcoholic drinks, following a directive from party chairman Friedrich Merz. In a letter sent to exhibitors by the party’s central office, the organizers explain that, “due to the current assessment of the situation and the decision of the party chair, we must unfortunately adjust the timetable for alcoholic beverage service on Friday evening at short notice”.
The party’s Department of Organization and Events added in an e‑mail titled “Adjustment of catering on Friday (20 Feb 2026)” that the delegates must remain in the plenary hall until the session’s end. Consequently, exhibitors are kindly requested to forgo alcohol service during their displays. The email further states that delegates will be informed that catering will resume only after the Baden‑Württemberg evening following the conclusion of the session. The organizers express regret over the sudden change and thank exhibitors for their flexibility and cooperation.
As is customary during CDU party days, a variety of exhibitors will be present near the plenary, including Airbus, Amazon, Deutsche Telekom, Google, Haus & Grund, Lieferando, Mastercard, Philip Morris, SAP, Uber, and the Association of the Automotive Industry.
The CDU federal party day takes place on Friday and Saturday in Stuttgart. Among the agenda items are elections, a nomination for party chair where Friedrich Merz will run again, and a speech by him. The event will also debate numerous motions, such as part‑time work regulations and a proposal for a social‑media ban for children and youth.
Prior to the official start on Friday, a Thursday afternoon session will convene the party’s presidency and federal board, and delegations will meet. Additionally, a press reception on Thursday evening is scheduled, where alcohol will be served.
