Merz Faces Boos at Halle Rally

During a public appearance in Halle (Saale) on Friday evening, Chancellor Friedrich Merz of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) faced a brief interruption of boos from the crowd. The Chancellor, who had previously participated in unity celebrations in Saarbrücken, travelled to Saxony-Anhalt to attend a local event known as the “Candle Singing.

Explaining his presence, Merz stated his desire to visit a city in eastern Germany as part of his schedule. Following the initial disruption, applause dominated the atmosphere.

The Chancellor emphasized his commitment to celebrating German unity and subsequently joined a choir, alongside Saxony-Anhalt’s Economics Minister Sven Schulze and hundreds of attendees on the Halle marketplace to sing “We Shall Overcome”. The event marked a visible display of shared participation and celebration.
