A government spokesperson for the Funke media group clarified that no public funds were used for the chair’s order, delivery, or assembly. Minister Amthor stated that he bought the beach chair privately and paid for the delivery and setup himself. The beach chair came to public attention following its appearance in the ZDF documentary “Inside CDU,” which triggered a debate across social media platforms. Amthor was appointed to the State Minister position at the Chancellery this summer.
