Federal Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder (CDU) gave a positive assessment of the fuel discount measure just before it expires. When asked by the “Rheinische Post” whether the discount had been successful, Schnieder stated, “Studies show that a large part of this relief has reached the consumers. In that sense: yes.”
The tax relief, which costs 1.6 billion euros at the gas pumps, is only available until Tuesday, June 30. Looking ahead to potential price increases once this measure ends, the Minister explained that they will meticulously monitor the situation in collaboration with the Ministry of Economics and the Ministry of Finance, enabling them to draw necessary conclusions and determine targeted steps.
