The summer trip of Transport Minister Steffen Bilger (CDU) began with an ICE breakdown on Monday. According to the “Rheinische Post”, the minister had to change trains right at the start of his journey. While traveling from Berlin Central Station to Hamburg, the air conditioning system failed in the second-class carriage. The train car was subsequently cleared and closed down-a problem that many other travelers encounter during the summer months. Bilger has recently announced plans to link future bonus payments for railway managers to the achievement of specific goals, particularly on punctuality. Whether he also intends to consider service quality in this initiative remains to be seen. During his two-day trip, Bilger plans to first gather information on train safety and the cleanliness of stations in Pinneberg and Kiel.
