North Rhine-Westphalian Interior Minister Herbert Reul (CDU) commented on the riots that occurred during the football match between Dynamo Dresden and Hertha BSC over Easter weekend, emphasizing that he remains open to dialogue. Reul stated to the “Rheinische Post” on Tuesday, “If disorder can only be stopped by police on the field, a clear line has been crossed. The recent riots in Dresden show me once again that the clubs need to be held to a higher standard. However, I continue to rely on dialogue with the DFL, DFB, and the clubs, and I will address the issue at the next Interior Ministers’ Conference”. Additionally, the federal states have the authority to pass on increased costs for police deployments at high-risk matches to the clubs. Policymakers are gradually increasing the pressure on the clubs. Saxony Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU) has also announced that he intends to raise this issue at the next Interior Ministers’ Conference following the events of the weekend.
