The search for a 33-year-old man and his 6-year-old son, missing since July 5th in the Eibsee lake, concluded tragically on Saturday with the recovery of their bodies.
Authorities at the Upper Bavaria South Police Headquarters reported that a specialized company had previously located the remains within the lake. The Criminal Police Department of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is now conducting an investigation to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the incident.
The 6-year-old boy initially fell from a pedal boat into the Eibsee a week prior. His father subsequently entered the water in an attempt to rescue him. Both individuals disappeared underwater and have been missing since that time.
Extensive search efforts, involving numerous helpers, divers, rescue boats, helicopters and specially trained search dogs, were mobilized immediately following the incident. The bodies were successfully recovered by police divers from a depth of approximately 24 meters on Saturday. The families of the deceased have been notified.
