A helicopter has crashed into the Mulde River near Grimma, in the Leipzig district, authorities confirmed Tuesday.
Police were alerted to the incident by kayakers who reported sighting a piece of debris believed to be from a helicopter in the river. A joint investigation is now underway, involving the Grimma Police Station, the Federal Police and the Water Police.
Initial reports offer no details regarding potential injuries or fatalities. According to reports from MDR, the helicopter appears to have been a privately chartered aircraft. Local fire services have indicated the wreckage is located near the A14 bridge within the river. The circumstances surrounding the crash are currently being investigated.
