Munich Police Celebrate Smooth 5,000‑Strong Deployment at 62nd Security Conference, Amid Minor Disruptions

The Munich police have reported a successful deployment during the 62nd Munich Security Conference (MSC), which ran from Thursday to Sunday. About 5,000 officers were on duty, including support teams drawn from across Germany and several neighbouring European countries.

During the conference police supervised 17 meetings directly linked to the MSC. Saturday proved the busiest day. On the Theresienwiese grounds a demonstration against the political situation in Iran drew up to 250,000 participants and remained largely peaceful. In contrast, a gathering of roughly 2,000 people aimed at the MSC – including about 250 “autonomous” activists – experienced disruptions. In Marienplatz, two police officers were struck with boots; the suspects were arrested.

In total, more than 20 incidents associated with the MSC were reported, including breaches of an imposed flight‑restriction zone. A traffic accident on the A9 near Allershausen on Saturday damaged six police vehicles and caused minor injuries to several officers. Over the course of the deployment, 23 police staff suffered minor injuries, and a further 18 officers fell ill. Sixty‑nine vehicles were towed from newly established no‑parking zones, and 59 of those were removed.
