U.S. stock indices offered a mixed performance on Thursday. At the close in New York, the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached 49,499 points, a small uptick from the previous day. A few minutes earlier, the broader S&P 500 traded near 6,909 points, down 0.5 %, while the technology-focused Nasdaq 100 hovered at about 25,034 points, slipping 1.2 %.
Nvidia’s shares fell even after the chipmaker exceeded analysts’ revenue and earnings forecasts announced after Wednesday’s market close. Investors voiced concerns about future trade with China and the scarcity of gaming chips-factors that may shape Nvidia’s performance as a barometer for the economic impact of artificial intelligence.
The euro weakened slightly on Thursday night, trading at 1.1803 U.S. dollars per euro. Accordingly, one U.S. dollar was worth 0.8472 euros.
Gold prices rose, with a troy ounce selling for 5,198 U.S. dollars-an increase of 0.6 %-equivalent to 141.59 euros per gram.
Brent crude also ticked higher, trading at 70.92 U.S. dollars per barrel at 10 p.m. German time on Thursday, up 7 cents or 0.1 % from the previous close.
