NATO member states raised their missile‑defense readiness across the alliance after an Iranian ballistic missile aimed at Turkey was intercepted. The action was first taken on Wednesday and confirmed by NATO spokesperson Martin O’Donnell on Thursday evening. The immediate step was authorised by the commander of the NATO Air Forces, who also urged that the heightened readiness remain in place until Iran’s ongoing indiscriminate attacks in the region recede.
Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACE) approved this recommendation, and the issue was discussed in a North Atlantic Council meeting today. The Allies voted unanimously to sustain the increased defenses. O’Donnell declined to disclose further details of the specific measures, citing operational‑security concerns.
