Netanyahu’s Gaza Plans Deemed Futile by Military Expert

A leading political scientist and military expert has voiced strong criticism regarding Israel’s plans to expand operations in the Gaza Strip. Professor Carlo Masala, of the Faculty of State and Social Sciences at the University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich, described the decision as lacking strategic or military rationale in comments to the Funke Media Group’s Saturday editions. The Israeli security cabinet recently approved expanding the war in Gaza, including a decision to move to capture Gaza City.

Masala characterized the move as being driven by domestic political considerations, suggesting it’s an attempt by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to consolidate his power. “Expanding operations endangers the soldiers of the IDF, an army already strained after 22 months of conflict on multiple fronts. It also risks the lives of the Israeli hostages” the political scientist stated.

Even if Israel were successful in occupying the Gaza Strip, Masala predicts ongoing resistance. “Hamas and other terrorist groups are likely to see renewed support and Israel will almost certainly face increased international isolation” he warned.
