New Digital Ministry Headquarters Announced

The newly established Digital Ministry is relocating its headquarters, marking a significant step in consolidating its operations. Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU) and his team will be moving into facilities previously occupied by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG).

Minister Wildberger confirmed the decision, emphasizing its fiscal responsibility. “This represents the best solution for taxpayers, as the Ministry of Health is vacating the location regardless, eliminating any additional costs” he stated. The BMG had been based at the Friedrichstraße 108 building in Berlin-Mitte for an extended period, transitioning to its current location on Mauerstraße in 2022 following extensive renovations.

The relocation plan, initially reported by “Table Briefings” was communicated to ministry staff earlier this week. A phased move is anticipated, with the hope of a partial operational presence at the new location by the end of the current year. The complete transition is slated for completion by the end of the second quarter of 2026.

The new centralized headquarters will allow Minister Wildberger to bring a substantial portion of his team together. “A building comes to life not through its architecture, but through the people and what happens inside” Wildberger commented. While the ministry currently employs approximately 500 individuals, many of whom are formally associated with other government entities, the exact number of personnel stationed at the new headquarters remains to be determined.
