During a Tuesday afternoon, at least nine people were shot and more than 25 were injured at a secondary school and at a nearby residence in British Columbia, according to the local police (Tumbler Ridge RCMP).
When officers arrived at the school they found several bodies. The suspected gunman was discovered dead with a self‑inflicted wound, and six additional victims, not counting the suspect, were found deceased on the school grounds.
Two individuals were taken to hospital with severe or life‑threatening injuries, and a third died during transport. About 25 other people are being examined at the local medical centre for non‑life‑threatening injuries. The remaining students and staff were evacuated.
As part of the ongoing investigation, police have identified a second site that is likely connected to the incident. There, two more victims were found dead inside a dwelling. Officers are conducting further searches of additional houses and properties to determine whether anyone else was hurt or otherwise linked to the events. The RCMP’s major crimes division in British Columbia is leading the investigation.
