Borussia Dortmund’s sporting director, Lars Ricken, has indicated there’s no immediate urgency surrounding discussions about extending the contract of head coach Niko Kovac.
Speaking to “Kicker”, Ricken acknowledged the increased frequency of questions regarding Kovac’s future, noting the dichotomy of criticism previously levied against the club for initially awarding him a contract extending through 2026. He suggested a premature extension would be perceived as contradictory.
Ricken emphasized the development of a strong working relationship between the club and the coach over recent months. “We are in complete agreement” he stated, adding that the decision-making process will not be influenced by external discussions. “We are relaxed about the situation and taking our time.
He further clarified that ongoing dialogue exists, but the club will not disclose timelines or provide updates on the progress of potential negotiations.
