The states of Bremen, Lower Saxony and Schleswig Holst en have pledged their support for Hamburg’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games. On Thursday, the heads of the four northern state governments-Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD), Olaf Lies (SPD), Daniel Günther (CDU) and Peter Tschentscher (SPD)-issued a joint statement.
They described the prospective Games as a “century‑opportunity” for the entire region, stressing the sporting enthusiasm and the prospects for growth in the economy, infrastructure and cross‑state cooperation. Hamburg’s bid plan focuses on sustainability, social cohesion and the efficient use of existing sports facilities. The leaders confirmed their readiness to work closely together to make the bid successful.
Additional backing comes from the regional business community. The 13 chambers of industry and commerce represented in IHK Nord, spanning five northern German states, issued a resolution that unequivocally backs the bid.
