Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre has called off his planned visit to Germany this Thursday. The cancellation stems from the health of Norway’s 89-year-old King Harald V, whose condition is described as critical and suggests he is nearing the end of his life.
An official statement from the Royal Palace indicated on Thursday that the King’s state is “very serious” and has recently deteriorated, leading the family to move him to the hospital.
Støre was scheduled to attend several events during the trip. This included a confidential meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) at the Chancellery in Berlin on Thursday evening, as well as a visit to the retreat meeting of the Union and SPD faction leaders at Aasee in Münster.
