Nouripour Calls for Unified European Stance on China Ahead of Chancellor’s Beijing Visit

Bundestag Vice President Omid Nouripour (Greens) urged for a tighter European coordination on China policy before the German chancellor’s upcoming trip to Beijing. He told the Funke Media newspapers that, after the inaugural visit, German federal government members should not travel to China alone but only as part of a European delegation.

Nouripour said all European nations confront the same challenges with China-from human‑rights abuses to the artificial scarcity of rare earth elements imposed by Beijing. He added that the Communist Party skillfully exploits even minor differences among Europeans. “Therefore we must think about China policy consistently from a European perspective” he insisted. “The Chinese side must see that we speak together as a unified group and that we do not allow ourselves to be divided”.
