Experienced German diplomat Wolfgang Ischinger believes that Viktor Orbán’s defeat as Hungary’s Prime Minister clears the path for broader European support for Ukraine. Speaking to “Stern” the director of the Munich Security Conference stated that Orbán’s defeat removes a major obstacle, noting that his disagreement with Zelensky’s has been deeply personal. Ischinger suggested that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico would struggle to maintain the political position of being the “sole veto player”. He added, “Without Orbán by his side, the pressure will be too great for him. The 90 billion euros in financial aid for Ukraine will be released in the near future”.
