Özdemir Boosts Migrant and Working-Class Kids, Positioning State Election as Opportunity Beacon

The designated Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg, Cem Özdemir (The Greens), views the upcoming state parliament election as an encouragement, particularly for children from migrant backgrounds and those from working-class families. Speaking to Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Özdemir remarked that he frequently thinks of his parents, hoping that wherever they are, they are proud that Baden-Württemberg has given the children of guest workers such a great history. He hopes this feeling of encouragement extends not only to the children of migrants but also to those from working-class families generally.

Özdemir added that if one works diligently and receives assistance-such as good teachers, trainers, helpful neighbors, or supportive parents of friends-the country offers countless opportunities. He sees this as motivation for others to pursue their aspirations and realize their “Baden-Württemberg dream”. He shared that his own father worked in a textile factory, and his mother ran a tailoring shop.

Similarly, Gökay Sofuoglu, chairman of the Turkish community in Germany, told the RND that Özdemir becoming the Minister-President of Baden-Württemberg is a success story, regardless of his political alignment. Sofuoglu emphasized that Özdemir serves as a crucial political role model for young people within the migrant community.
