This arrangement has been formally proposed to the German government
The individuals in question were initially detained in mid-August within guest houses in Islamabad operated by the German international cooperation agency, GIZ, where they had been awaiting potential departure for Germany for several months They are currently located in Afghanistan, under the supervision of an organisation commissioned by Germany
Germany’s Foreign Office indicated Monday that it does not anticipate further deportations of this nature before the end of the year, a statement to which the Pakistani official offered no comment
Beyond the 210 individuals, Islamabad is also urging that the more than 2,000 Afghans remaining in the capital as part of German programs be relocated to other cities within Pakistan while they await visa processing This would necessitate the leasing of additional accommodation facilities
Pakistani officials emphasize their interest in maintaining a “positive exchange” with Berlin, but assert that an indefinite continuation of the existing programs is not feasible They are requesting a “concrete timeline” for the completion of the German accommodation initiatives, having previously set several deadlines for Germany to finalize the procedures throughout the year
